Underwater Photographer

Canon Master, AIPP M Photog II, Publisher and Foto Frenzy Founder.

Darren was inspired to explore a career in nature photography by his father’s travels in Antarctica, He now pursues a passion for capturing and sharing the wonder of the natural world.
After graduating from the Queensland College of Art, Darren first worked in commercial photography, before taking up a position as a photographer with the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service, where he worked for 8 years.
Moved on in 1994, Darren’s work is now published widely in books, magazines and paper products. He’s had the opportunity to photograph extensively across Australia and in Africa, Alaska, Patagonia and Antarctica and has introduced many people to the world’s great wildlife and landscape destinations first hand, through small group photography tours, predominantly to Africa and Antarctica and the Pacific.

Darren will co-present with Jasmine Carey.  Drawing from their expeditions and adventures – from delightful, surprising underwater time-lapse photography in the warm waters and reefs off Lady Elliott Island, to cold water adventure with orcas in Norway – they will share with us their photography, inspiration and journey towards developing a personal style.

Jasmine Carey

Jasmine has a passion for the ocean.  Her beautiful, intimate photographs of the marine life she encounters confirm her deep connection with the sea.

Jasmine spends most of each year sharing her underwater world – both through her photographs and as guide and photographer for Whales Underwater and Foto Frenzy.

Her stunning images have an emotive, perceptive and graceful style that takes you with her on a journey into her beloved blue world.

Jasmine has been diving since 2005 and in that time she’s dived across the Indo-Pacific, searching out encounters and interactions with the full gamut of marine life. Her passion for whales sees her spend the southern winter with breeding humpbacks in the tropical waters of Tonga and the northern winter encountering orcas feeding in the Norwegian fjords.

Working as a team with world-acclaimed underwater photographer and Canon Master Darren Jew, their collaboration brings obvious passion and expertise to their work.

Jasmine’s enthusiasm for the ocean is infectious. She inspires others, is an excellent teacher, and is eager to share her experience with fellow adventurers, nature lovers and photographers: “It’s a continuing pleasure to see my guests reach new levels of understanding — about the natural world, and about themselves.”
